pivotal people

Phil Crothers

Director of Film

Phil’s experience as a commercials Director spans performance, visual effects, humour and storytelling. He has filmed across the whole of the UK and Ireland as well as many locations across the globe, including New York, Monaco, Cape Town, Vancouver, Chicago and Boston.

Before establishing Pivotal, among many other interesting projects, he shot principle aerial footage for HBO’s Game of Thrones and Disney’s The Lodge . He holds both CAA and IAA certification and has established a personal reputation for pushing the boundaries and expanding the limits of aerial filming.

He loves music, technology, sci-fi, a good thriller, doesn’t read enough and is generally to be found out hooning about on a motorbike…. somewhere.

He likes the quote ‘What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lives within us’ and his favourite word is ‘pamphlet’.

Keith Murray

Director of Production

The short version…Recovering Creative Director, addicted to film making.

The ‘attaboy’version…A multi award winning refugee from the advertising industry, Keith has had a long association with the film and animation world. (And yes he remembers the days of filming on 35mm)

Prior to helping establish Pivotal, he spent four years heading up the moving image division of one of the world’s largest branding agencies. During that time he was responsible for producing film and animation projects for some of the globe’s most iconic brands.

His attitude to life is ‘Love what you do, do what you love’ and his most used phrase is ‘ In fairness, I was left unattended’

Tom Callander

Aerial Specialist / Camera Operator / Editor

Tom is an extremely talented film maker and drone pilot who has gained a huge amount of experience working for industry leaders such as HBO, Netflix, Channel 4 and the BBC. In addition, he holds CAA and IAA certification.

His attention to detail is inspiring and his imagination has no boundaries.

Tom’s work has taken him from Bali to Balintore and using his innovative skills he has developed a dynamic approach to making  impactful images.

He loves nothing more than a little demolition work and arguing with Golden Eagles

Norma Crothers

Production Manager

Norma is the organiser extraordinaire at Pivotal and can often be heard exclaiming that herding cats would be easier! She is methodical and results focused with a clear view on achieving the desired solution.

She loves to cook, listen to live music, travel and detests bananas. She is also concise.

Heather Browne

Camera Operator / Editor

A ridiculously talented stills photographer, Heather brought her visual prowess to film several years ago  through her passion for aerial filming.

She is skilled in many areas of moving image production, including filming, editing and 2D animation. Being a proud space nerd, you’ll most likely find her up a hill geeking at the heavens, camera in hand.

She’s a fervent defender of nature as well as a fully qualified snowboard instructor. In her own words ‘snowboarding is life!’

Sai Kelly

Camera Operator / Content Developer / Editor

Sai has explored the film industry in various roles and productions focusing on Production, Directing and Cinematography. He has been working on his own productions since 2011 and gained several National and International awards for Short Film and Visual Effects.

He continues to produce in his own unique style and has a clear eye on the creative. Sai is devoted to telling the story and is passionate about the ability of visual story-telling to unite, change, renew, shape, bring life and give hope.

He lives in Lisburn with his wife Ally, son Eli and their bonkers Border Collie, Megatron. When not pointing a camera he can often be found climbing mountains, engaged in Airsoft battles and making sinister snowmen.

Catherine Morton

Film & editing assistant

A past pupil of Wallace High School, Catherine is currently taking Film Studies and Production at Queens University, Belfast.

She is gaining great experience working with the teams across all areas of the production process, from filming to editing.

As you would expect Catherine is fanatical about all things film, so if you have any old cameras in your attic she’ll give them a good home.

Nathan Emery

Film & editing assistant

Nathan is a passionate and enthusiastic film maker studying media production at Ulster University. His attention to detail and creative skills means he is a natural in the moving image world.

With a keen eye for a beautiful image he is a hot shot editor and camera operator. He is currently learning all things aerial and is soon to come to a sky near you.

When he’s not making or watching films Nathan is a dedicated mountain man and spends his spare time in the Mournes photographing rocks and goats.
